Weekly Match Round up- Sunday 9th March

9 Mar 2025

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the first weekend of football basking in the sunshine. Coachs Steve and Gavin were even seen in their shorts! Read on to see how all our teams got on this weekend....,

Sunday saw Sandgate U7’s  at home vs Langley FC

The game was a really great entertaining game with both sets of parents commentating on how good the game was with end to end football and both teams having chances.

A never give up performance from the U7’s and some really good football saw us over the line.

It’s really good to see that all our perseverance and hard work in training is now starting to pay off in games

Player of the match 🏆

As always a hard decision, but POTM went to Lochie. I don’t know what he had for breakfast but nothing was getting past him in goal, saves galore and was just on it from the start till the end 👏🏻

Well done Sandgate U7’s 🔴⚪️🔴⚪️

The U7 Colts were away to Townmead Whites this morning in what turned out to be a very entertaining game to watch.

The earlier than usual start caused the colts to start a little slow but after the first 10 minutes the teams were evenly matched and it was real end to end football and both teams were able to score a few goals.

This was possibly the best performance from the Colts all season and it was lovely to see all the work we have been putting in during training pay off.

A lot of very good performances today so the MPOTM & PPOTM were tough decisions and it came down to some very minor details:

MPOTM- Leo for his amazing performance in midfield getting back whenever the opposition had the ball to defend and scoring his first ever Hat-trick proves he did his job offensively.

PPOTM- Layla for her unrelenting energy on the pitch, breaking up the oppositions play with tackles and interceptions and finding good passes forward and nearly grabbing her first goal today.

Special Shout out to Grayson for scoring his first Goal for the club!

Our U8’s played away against Taplow Blues U8’s this morning.

It’s fair to say we started of the first period a bit slower than recent weeks. And definitely wasn’t playing to our usual ability or standards. And although both teams created chances the period ended scoreless.

With a few constructive words and reminding them to concentrate on their passing, in the hopes it would put pressure on the opposition. They started the second period more focused and determined. With Ivy scoring our first goal of the game we momentarily took the lead but the opposition managed to find the equaliser when we dropped our focus meaning we ended the second period level.

When starting the third period the team knew that they couldn’t afford to let their focus slip again if they wanted to pick up a win.

They powered on and throughout the third and fourth periods between them both Kenny & Leo L managed to sink more goals meaning we picked up another win when the game ended in our favour.

I was very pleased how the whole team kept up the fight to get the upper hand in the game and it paid off. Meaning they picked up their third win on the bounce.

Goal Scorers this week were…

Ivy

Kenny

Leo L

POTM went to none other than our very own “safe hands” Shea. He dominated the goal and kept the team in the game pulling off some cracking saves. The growth in his confidence is really shining through and that is testament to his dedication to the team by attending midweek goalkeeping focused training. Well done young man!

Today U9 Colts hosted Kew Park Rangers U9 Royals.

The first quarter started slow and the teams were very matched.

Second quarter was very matched again with our boys managing to score from a clever touch around the keeper who again this week was a very strong keeper but Ihaan managd to get the job done. That being said the boys seemed to have switched off and the opponents equalised from a corner.

3rd quarter the opponents stepped their game up and scored again from a corner. The match throughout was very evenly matched.

4th quarter I spoke to the boys in the break and they went out strong getting every first ball. Rehaan set David to score a great goal from outside the box. KPR managed to get the ball on the edge of the box. Where there was confusion between our defence and keeper and KPR slotted in their winning goal. Today our boys seemed to not want the win like the rest of the season. Well done to our opponents for bringing the boys back down to earth by reminding us, you need to be hungry till the end.

Goals :

Ihaan

David

MPOTM - Onish was our greatest player all game, didnt switch off, closed down every play in his path and helped the team. Made some great passing and kept his head up after an open opportunity in front of goal that he fumbled. Also great listening today by Onish.

PPOTM - David great goal scored from outside the box. Being sick today really affected his game but nothing we can do about it. Fair play to David for giving it his all even if it wasn't his norm.

Today, Sandgate U9's Red played an away match against Langley Lycans. Unfortunately, it was not our day, and we lost.

We actually started the match quite well, but after conceding an early goal, the boys seemed to lose their confidence and concentration. This led to further goals conceded in the first half, putting us under pressure.

In the second half, we struggled to play as a team, made several mistakes, and lacked support for each other on the pitch. Additionally, there were very few long passes, and we gave away a penalty, which increased the gap in the scoreline.

While the result was disappointing, it’s important we learn from this game. We’ll continue working on teamwork, passing, and staying focused during tough moments.

I believe the boys have great potential, and with the right mindset, we will come back stronger in the next match.

Heads up, team — we’ll keep pushing forward! 💪⚽

U10s played NPL at home today who beat us in last game before Christmas. Told the boys we gotta go show them today our levels. We did exactly that we out worked them and outplayed them. Was a goal down before captain Ollie equalised.

2nd half was all us. We hit the cross bar. Both posts and had one cleared off line. Didn’t think it would be our day till the last 45 seconds were Ollie scored his 2nd.

U10 Colts played at home to George Green Jnrs Eagles, it was a league plate game. First half we conceded a very good goal from the away team from the half way line but straight after kick off we controlled the game with good passing and attacking, we had so many chances to score but did not go in.

In the second half we came out strong with Hussain scoring the leveler and also converting a very good pass from the right wing by Alvin. After this the boys played with so much freedom and a dozen chances to score even more goals but they are not able to convert (need to find a solution for this).

We entered the last 5 minutes of the game and the away team kicked the ball long and our defenders were nowhere to be seen so it was a draw.

Went into penalties and sadly we lost.

Goals: Hussain

POTM - Hussain, for his hard work today and for the two amazing goals

------

U12 reds won 3 - 2 vs Epsom & Ewell in a very good tight game.

The reds got off to a good start working extremely hard to score first but Epsom got back and equalised. We were put under a lot of pressure for the rest of the half but managed to score right before half time.

The boys had worked very hard with a lot of running in first half in warm conditions - Made some small changes and we attacked well at the start of the second half getting an early third goal and really started to take control of the game in the second half.

Switched off late and they caught us out to score their second goal to make an interesting last 5 / 6 mins or so but the boys done well and kept on for the win.

Lots of good effort today against third place team to push now for the last 2 games of the season.

Goals -

⚽️ Enock (scored on his birthday weekend)

⚽️ Ethan

⚽️ Matt

player of the match -

Lots of great effort today from the whole team but 2 stand out performances - Daniel B was a rock in CM for the first half and has been the whole season for us - Nothing was getting past him and some wonderful passes going forward and Tarila up front for his continuous non stop work and effort - Outstanding effort today

U12Colts faced league leaders Sutton Common.

It was a very long day after the M25 closure created a 1hr 50m drive to Sutton, for a 12.30ko. Finally got home at 4.15pm 😱

Both teams started well, Sutton taking an early lead. Sandgate boys battled well and worked hard throughout.

Riley made some crucial saves to hold the scoreline at 1 going into the break.

Sutton got another, but the boys didn’t give up. A few minutes later, Louie scored a beckham-esq worldie from the half way line. Game on!

Game could have gone either way for most of the second half with both teams creating chances.

Unfortunately a deflected free kick and a counter attack gave Sutton two more.

Final score 4-1, flattering to Sutton.

Couldn’t be prouder of the boys today, they gave it their best against the league leaders, and held their own for most of the game. Work rate, physicality, passing and general attitude was vastly improved from last week.

Well done boys!

PotM - Jas. superb work rate up front, chasing everything down and putting their  defence under pressure.

U13 reds played away to Esher Blues.

Dominated from the first whistle and won 11-1.

Goal scorers were:

Jenson 3, Suraj 2, Ekam 2, Daniel, Harry, Henry and Hal.

Harlie was spectating today and chose Saifan as PotM

----

Under 13s colts played a double header against Colliers Wood.

7-0 first game, 9-2 second.

However sadly the game was overshadowed by something that can only be called “old school racism. “ However the result went out of the window. The “gentle giant” stepped in, the boys rallied round, and the opposition were fantastic in what can only be described as a true show of unity against racism.

No man of the match, the players could have lost it, they didn’t  and we go into next week knowing that we can win the league with two games in hand.

----

U14s played away to Motspur

We dominated from start to finish

We let a goal slip 5 mins from the end where we shuffled our players about and tried 3 at back where the other team pushed for a consolation.

1-5 winners to our U14s

Goals coming from

Kai ⚽️ (Pen)⚽️

Krish (pen) ⚽️

Jude ⚽️

Jordan ⚽️

PotM - Jude for a solid performance in midfield and getting a well deserved goal

U14 Colts played their league trophy quarter final this morning away to Raynes Park Vale Reds.

We couldn’t have got off to a better start with Rohan harassing our hosts from their very first kick off, winning the ball and driving home our first goal within a minute.

Adam extended our lead a few minutes later and we had 15 mins of us dominating the game.

Our opponents shook off their slow start and were getting into the game as every minute passed. Some sloppy defending saw our hosts get one back. A needless tackle gave our hosts a penalty which they failed to convert (hitting both posts!) and Jad clearing our lines.

Another individual error gave our hosts the equaliser before another silly tackle in the box gifted our hosts the lead as they slot the resulting penalty home taking us into the break at 3-2.

The second half was a very scrappy affair with neither side controlling the game or creating too many chances. A ball was put through to Adam a few minutes from time and he calmly converted to give us the equaliser. For the second week in a row in a trophy game at Raynes Park we were heading to penalties.

Unfortunately our star penalty takers from last week couldn’t do the job again and with Cody carrying an injury he was limited in his movement between the posts.

We lost 3-1 on penalties in the end, but the boys should take pride in their ability to compete with another team 2 divisions above us and take them all the way to pens. We need to take confidence from our recent games back into the league where we are still looking to challenge for the title.

Goals - Adam C (2), Rohan

Man of the match - Cody and Adam C. But the whole team should be proud.
