Match Reports – Sunday 20th October
The weather made for some testing condition this weekend, with training cancelled on Saturday due to the heavy rain. The Sandgate teams rose to the challenge in both cup and league action though, Well done everyone. Read on to find out more about the team performances……
Saturday
U12 whites won 8 - 1 against Fullerians today to bounce back from last week's tough game.
Solid performance from the team with special mention to Archie and Umair for their efforts.
Player of the match - Daniel - The rock of the midfield and created so much coming on in second half and got on the score sheet for the second week running.

U7’s played Maidenhead Utd Dragons away this morning.
Not a very good day for the U7’s with our worst performance and loss so far…
However, we know it’s development football and we all understand that there will be games like this as it’s all part of the learning process journey !
We keep our heads up and focus on them smiles we always have the pleasure of seeing… We’ll get back training next Saturday, working on game situations and getting ready for next Sunday’s game

U8’s played at home against FC Cippenham Rhinos U8’s
Today the team got off to a much quicker start than they have previously. The opposition getting an early goal could have set the tone of the match, but this was disallowed due to our keeper having both hands on the ball when it was kicked. From this we went on to score making it 1, we were then awarded a penalty which saw us sink another one in the net. Each player displayed great understanding of their role and responsibility on the pitch today. This being the second week in a row that they showed their desire and hunger to win the ball and it paid off, securing them a win!
Hitting the scoresheet this week: Leo , Kenny
Player of the Match was awarded to Kacie for showing all round improvement in her game and continuing to battle hard as always.

U9s lost to meadow sport
Another slow start meant we conceded 2 early goals but the boys never gave up, kept fighting and working and keeping positive
We got a goal back from some good passing which finished with Romario volleying home and then got an own goal. Then after some good work of his own Renley won and duly converted the penalty for his 1st goal at this level and well deserved after a tough start to playing up
But very proud of the boys performance and improvement again can see we are starting to pass the ball better and play more as a team

U9 Colts hosted Burpham Juniors FC lightning.
Unfortunately I wasn't at the game due to work commitments. So I want to thank Jamal for stepping in and managing the game in my absence.
Our boys started off like they have done before strong and always playing the ball quick but the team had a shock by Jasraj accidentally fumbling the ball dropping and it slipping in between his legs to put the visitors up 0-1.
In the 2nd quarter then Colts picked their pace up with David and Rehaan combining and Rehaan slotting it in top bins to equalise the score. Then David created by himself from a corner a wonder goal to give us the lead.
Our boys realised that this team was probably the most physical team we have come up against so far and the visitors managed to equalise.
2nd half was a bit of a hit and miss for both teams with some lovely tackles from both David and Gabriel and the confidence and dribbling were back.
Rehaan in the last quarter scored very similar goals, volleys from a corner on both occasions and to see how he is developing as a player, the way he positioned himself then ran into space to get his foot on the ball to score is a wonderful thing to see.
So to finalise the boys did well and made us proud for the 6th league game in a row. Unbeaten so far this season for 2024 and let's hope after the break they pick up where we left off and just keep improving.
Really proud of them for doing what they did on Sunday and without me there to advise and coach. So again thank you Jamal for stepping in.
Managers POTM was David for never giving up, putting in some great tackles, assisting 3 goals and scoring 1 himself all created by him.
Parents POTM was Rehaan for scoring a hat-trick but while scoring doing it in a confident way and style that most would attempt.

U10s - A tale of missed opportunities…
3 half chances and penalty lost the boys the game today … lessons to be learnt for concentration throughout.
The boys absolutely battered them for 3 quarters but came up short. Chance after chance squandered but the resilience to keep on fighting was for all to see.
In life there are times when you lose but you can be proud of the fighting spirit throughout.
These boys are slowly gelling together and it’s a matter of time before someone gets a thumping off them!!

U10 Colts played away to Slough Hurricane Reds. We had an amazing start to the game with very good movement from the boys. We had 3 chances to open the scoring but did not go in.
Slough Hurricane started to get into the game after 15 minutes and managed to get through our defence and score. Our goalkeeper Natan had one of his best games so far saving the team multiple times with a triple save and a penalty save.
In the end with multiple subs coming on our structure dissolved away and the team suffered a loss.
POTM: Natan, Without his saves the team would have lost with a bigger margin.

U11’s played HQFC away this morning
First half played a strong game, played heavy in midfield with some great opportunities, we conceded unluckily but came back and equalised before half time.
Second half playing against the elements with strong winds, a tight second half again very heavy possession in midfield and some great attacks from Sandgate. Two minutes before the end of the game HQ got a lucky break cut around last man and scored. Sandgate U11’s kept theirs heads up and showed great sportsmanship and respect.

U12 Reds won 9 - 1 in our first round County cup game vs Ealing utd.
Outstanding performance from our team. The whole team played really well. So many good performances.

Man of the match - So many could have been man of the match today with the performance. Daniel with his second man of the match in 2 days. Such a great midfielder with some great footwork. Such a rock in midfield and worked tirelessly today and Tarila our striker who played right back first half and did a fantastic job before going up front for the second half to help finish the game off

U12 colts had a 2pm away KO at Ealing Trailfinders in our first ever Middx County Cup .
We got off to a terrible start conceding two in the first five mins with some sloppy defending and poor marking. Sured up the back three and started to get back into the game, looking for link up passes, but not quite finding the right connections.
They got one more just before the break, 3-0 half time.
It was quite a physical game (not nasty though) and we took quite a pummeling, with Charlie getting an accidental whack in the eye, Louie and Arif both getting a nice set of stud marks across their ankles.
We pushed on for a goal to get back into the game but never really looked threatening.
3 more against us in the second half for a final tally, 6-0.
Really not our usual selves today, a few of the more experienced boys not quite firing on all cylinders. Well done to some of the newer boys, Ralph was great in defence, and Gurveer made some great moves on the right wing on his Sandgate FC debut.
Riyan also battled hard in defence and made some fantastic passes into space on the left, but this week’s PotM went to Riley in Goal, making some amazing saves, playing the ball out well and keeping his head despite the score!
We need to be better than this when we get back to our next league match after half term.

U13 played Carshalton today, after a very long journey and heavy rain we managed to get the game underway. We started brightly scoring 2 early goals before conceding a dubious penalty which they put away.
After half time we got a penalty after a great run from Yuvi.
We were short on numbers today and got an injury at the back leading us to concede 3 goals giving them a 4-3 lead.
We gathered ourselves, pushed hard and equalised through a great free kick, that gave us the momentum to push on in the last minutes and get the winner. Finals score 4-5.
For me today when we were under pressure and behind, the mental attitude of the boys to get back in the game and win was tremendous.

U13s Reds played Mitcham Park for the second time in 3 weeks. The boys started brightly and went 1-0 up early when Jenson spun his defender and played Ekam in to finish. H/t 1-0.
Second half the boys upped their game again and a great header from Malek and a poachers finish from Jenson sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory.
PotM went to Malek for an all round good display at the back and also chipped in with a goal.

U13 Colts won their game convincingly against Barnes Eagles. In what was a slow start they went 1-0 up in the first half which was quickly followed by a second goal. In the second half they were asked to win the game within the first 10 minutes to which they replied in true colts fashion scoring 2 goals.
Player of the Match went to Kaian who scored a well-deserved hat trick. The score line could have been double figures but full respect to the opposition who never gave up their battle but kept on trying to catch us on a break. Colts unbeaten run on all competitions continues.

U14s played Barnes eagles today at home.
And to be honest we didn’t really turn up today.
Poor weather took the limelight today making both teams play sloppy football and at some points some dangerous football especially from the away team 👀
We took the lead in the first half from a corner from JJ that fell to Krish that easily slotted it home and to be honest we were poor in front of goal today.
We should have scored 4/5.
But final score was 1-0 to us

Sandgate Men’s team were back in league action this week, as they took on Bedfont Dons.
Injury and non-availability bought about several changes, but the 11 on the pitch still managed to start just as fast as last week’s 11 finished
We should have been 2 or 3 up within the first 15 minutes, but a mix of both poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the scores level.
We dominated possession and had Bedfont pinned in their own third for most of the opening 45. Yet still struggled to find that key breakthrough.
0-0 at halftime, but the feeling was that we were on the right track.
The second half was much the same, as we dominated play, reducing them to a few half chances.
A couple of quick changes upped the tempo, and with it came the game’s opener.
An over hit cross was nodded back into the danger area by Michael Holmes, before Sean Rodwell slotted the ball home.
The boys then kicked into 4th and 5th gear, and not long after added a 2nd through Bailey West.
Once again Michael Holmes was instrumental in the build up.
That killed the game, allowing us to play the rest of the game at our own pace.
Another outstanding performance from the lads. Back to cup duties next week.
