Match reports – Sunday 13th October

Fewer teams in action this weekend, with a couple of games cancelled – but the Sandgate teams that played put in some strong performances with several teams holding their top spot in their respective leagues.  Well done everyone.  Read on for the match reports……

Saturday 12th

U12 whites lost 6 - 0 to King's Church Amersham today in the Chiltern Church League. It was a good game against a very strong side for the Chiltern league which is good to see that it has a bit of competition in it. Lots of good learning today for the development side, shame the score was what it was but lots of positives including another new player getting his first game for Sandgate.

Player of the match was Matt - Goalkeeper today (first time) and what a great game he had - It would have been much worse score if not for him.

Sunday 13th

U7’s played Frontline at home this morning  - Our 3rd win in a row 👏🏻

Another entertaining game with both sides playing really well, with some good football on show and the game being end to end !!!

As always this little group never gave up, kept battling and dug in when needed, best thing is seeing the smiles afterwards 👏🏻

POTM - Rylee, was in goal today and kept us in the game the 1st 20mins with a few good saves, the last 20mins Rylee pulled off some worldie saves keeping the scoreline down for us 👌🏻

U8’s Played away to Burnham Junior Blues.

From my knowledge this current Sandgate team have never won against them and when we played them at home at the start of this season they beat us with a 5 goal difference.

From the onset we had the team fired up and ready to work hard. No heads were going down this week!

We started strong with Izzy pocketing an early goal, this gave the team the much needed boost they needed when playing Burnham. Showing they are more than capable if they listen and work hard. Their determination and fight were back this week and they wasn’t going to be pushed around anymore.

They held their shape much better this week and followed my directions perfectly with goals popping in left, right and centre. With Kenny seemingly becoming our hatrick hero!

I’m proud of my team always but I’m immensely proud of them this week for believing in not only me, but themselves also.

So to be able to say that this week they beat Burnham is incredible.

They worked their socks off for that win showing just how much they have improved as a team!

Player of the Match: Junior.  If I’m honest could have easily been awarded to the whole team as fully deserved for today’s performance but one player stood out that little bit more to me today. Since taking over the team it has been an honour to see how this young man has grown to have confidence and trust in me after a couple of changes with team management. I look forward to seeing him each week and watching his development. He battled endlessly in today’s game so it was an absolute pleasure to be able to award POTM to Junior.

U9s played away to NPL and put in their best performance of the season but still wasn't enough as we narrowly lost despite coming back from two deficits and hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions

Couldn't of be prouder of them today and slowly but surely they will get there. Their passing today was the best it's been all season and some of the new players are starting to step up now.

Player of the match: Ates.  He was everywhere, made some excellent block and challenges by far his best game so far in a sandgate shirt and is coming on well especially for someone that only started playing football this year

U9 Colts hosted A.C. Fulham.  Dominated most of the game. We did have two moments in the game where concentration and determination from a few of our players was lacking and we conceded twice from set pieces.

Our dominance kept us unbeaten in the league with us winning our 5th league game.

PotM: Ihaan today by far our strongest player on the pitch, whatever position I put him in he performed and didn't complain.

Parents player of the match: Rehaan - great work ethic and lead the team because he didn't want to lose .

U10s won an entertaining game vs Ashford. A very convincing performance in a tough battle. Game was 0-0 with 15 to go then scored late on to win the game

U10 Colts played Townmead Youth Whites away and we had the game under control with good defending and moving up the field. The passing is slowly getting better and more effective, half time scores 0-0.

The second half involved some changes with 4 new players coming on. They did their best but we conceded but it was more like we gifted them!

POTM is Alvin due to his great determination and strong defending.

U11s hosted Sporttiers Black

After a few weeks of extremely close, nail biting games today was a nice change and left me feeling extremely proud of them all with a comfortable win. We established early on that we were the better team and created plenty of chances throughout the game and could have scored plenty. Five minutes of madness in the second half, which saw us conceded two in quick succession, was the only major negative in an otherwise exceptional performance.

POTM: Was shared this week between two players who had unbelievable games.

Hughie for a heroic performance in defence, letting nothing go past him and having great composure on the ball.

Blake for being an absolute workhorse again and netting his first hat trick of the season.

U12 lost 6-2 to Ewell youth

Bit frustrating at times staring slow definitely cost us today but we were better in the second half and could have been different if we took our chances. We found ourselves 4-0 down at half time, but fought back to draw the second half 2-2. Been a tuff start of the season for the boys, we’ve been out of our depth at times against some very good teams in our league but a lot of good signs of the boys keep working hard the results will come 💪🏻

U12 Reds won 6 - 1 today against Raynes Park Vale - It was a really good performance today from the team. Fantastic team play and everyone worked so hard. Lots of goals from different players today which was also good.

U12 Colts played top of the table Kingston and came out of the blocks fighting.

First half saw some great link up play, creating chances and keeping their attack at bay. The boys worked really hard and were the better team, going into the break at 0-0.

A few positional changes saw JT and Louie take a stint in goal. We lost our shape and our flow a bit, allowing Kingston to capitalise and get on the score sheet. We continued to create chances but didn’t challenge the keeper enough.

Final score 0-3. Another difficult loss for the boys to accept, knowing they had competed head to head for large parts of the game.

Need to pick themselves up for a tough away cup match in the County Cup next week.

PotM: two lads that vary rarely get the limelight being the coaches kids, but JT had an outstanding first half running his socks off and chasing everything down- then agreeing to a stint on goal in the second half.

Bradley was fired up and ready to go today, competing for everything that came his way. His calmness on the ball and ability to pick out a pass is awesome.

U13 Reds had a week off from league/cup action so had a friendly against Uxbridge Utd. Dominated from start to finish and won 11-2. Not the best opposition but kept the legs fresh going into a game against mitcham next week.

PotM went to Daniel for a very industrial display.

U14s played Bracknell town today at home in the league

We knew this was going a be a tough one as they were above us in the league before kick off today

We dominated both half’s playing some really attractive football.

Looks like we have finally found the path of playing great football.

A lot of credit goes to Billy and the boys for the last few training sessions.

Shows the hard work they put in and listen to is paying off.

U14 Colts played Corinthian Casual Falcons this morning. The early morning start affected the boys as we had a shaky first 10 mins putting ourselves under some pressure through silly mistakes. Some brilliant team work saw us take the lead with Rohan putting us 0-1 up.

Corinthian pulled themselves level with a well earned equaliser which seemed to wake our boys up. More great passing and selfless play saw us regain and extend our lead through Finley converting a penalty and Adam grabbing a brace before the break.

Half time talk was focused on bringing over what we worked on in training into the match environment and building on the good team work from the first half.

Maruti was on the scoresheet within minutes of the restart and Finley extended our lead further with a stunning shot taking the score to 1-6.

We spent the last 10 minutes of the game absorbing a lot of pressure from Corinthians as they looked to get back into the game. But this led to a few great counter attacking opportunities. Rohan and Adam both completed hat tricks with the final score 3-9.

Played some of our best passing and team football today. Great teamwork going forward and when defending.

Sandgate Men's team were away in the MCFL open cup this weekend against Uxbridge Athletic.
Both teams started well but it was Uxbridge who took the initiative when they hit us with two soft goals and a beautiful strike in a mad 15 minutes. Reeling from the goals the lads dug deep and dragged themselves back into the game but still going into the break 3-0 down. 

A few substitutions and a formation change, saw us dominate the second half. 10 minutes in we got our reward when Bevis (J) broke free and drove a low shot across the keeper into the bottom corner. It was all Sandgate now piling on the pressure, and again 10 mins later Bevis scored his second with a sweet volley inside the area. The game was now really open with Uxbridge trying to catch us on the break, but the Sandgate defence stood firm. We again came close with serval openings only to be denied by the keeper. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make the pressure pay with the final score 3-2.

A great game of Sunday football from both teams. We go again next week against Bedfont Dons.
