Weekly Match Reports Dec 6/7
A few games fell casualty to the heavy rain over the weekend, but great to see so many going ahead. A real testament to the drainage works we had over the summer months. Read on for the match action.
Sandgate U8’s were away to Langley FC this morning
We started the 1st quarter strong but Langley also started well with the ball going back and forth for a spell. We found ourselves with the better chances hit the crossbar and Langley keeper making a few saves.
2nd quarter and we started to get our foot on the ball more, moving the ball around with purpose in our passes, a well worked passing move saw us get on the scoresheet, then a assist from Rylee in goal saw us go further ahead.
The 3rd and 4th quarters saw us turn it on with the passes, the through balls, the defending and adding to the goals.
The hard work in training is really starting to pay off as today was by far one the best games I’ve seen us play

Players of the match - The Whole Team deserved it today, Rylee with a clean sheet, the defensive work as a team, the link up play, the passing, the goals, the build up. Sandgate U8’s were spot on today all over the pitch and Myself and T couldn’t be more prouder !!

Our U9’s played at home against Maidenhead Utd Hawks.
With two players down and a few players still being under the weather but determined to play.
We were slow to start this morning and conceded a goal within the first couple of minutes and another shortly after that.
From then the team woke up and got their heads in the game.
Rome worked hard and got a shot on target but it just went over the bar.
Theo took a corner which unfortunately found the post and not the net.
And Shea pulled off a magnitude of saves in the first half to keep it at just a few goals down.
We came out for the second half on much better form, and started to play some good football. Keeping the ball mostly in the oppositions half. Some good link ups between Izzy, Kenny and Rome with chances created, Ivy had a lovely shot that just went wide.
Another match where we just couldn’t get a goal despite their efforts.
Our opposition managed to sneak another in 5 mins before the whistle meaning we lost the game.
Lots of things highlighted to be worked on. Forever developing.
Player of the Match went to Shea, despite the result, he worked hard all game and kept the score line tighter than it could have been.

Under 10Reds vs Eton Wick Hornets
We started the game with purpose and intensity. The boys really worked hard to keep time of possession in our favour. Lots of scoring opportunities today. The pitch was in poor condition by the time we played. We had at least 12 scoring opportunities.
The last time we played them it was a tie. It was nice to get the win today. The score does not reflect how we really played considering we had possession at least 70% of the match. Again a team effort.

U11 lost , but it was a really good game and was unlucky with the score line.

Another week another loss… But there is a way to lose and the boys lost by fine margins just 2 lapses in concentration gave away goals. Both teams battled it out for the entire 1hr.
It was a tight affair and if the game was run back the boys have every chance of getting back the win for Sandgate. Absolute nail biter to watch throughout, and the boys have more work to do with Alfie in training ahead. Levels must and will rise. The work ethic alone will mean gaps will close sooner rather than later.

U11 Colts vs Delaford Colts.
We started the game with real intention, both teams battling to find the opening goal. The 4 new players slotted in brilliantly, and we created several chances. Ryden came close to scoring but taking too many touches in the box.
After a positive team talk at half time, and a few positional changes, the boys came out hungry. Unfortunately, the away side grabbed the 1st goal, setting the tempo. We pushed hard for the equaliser but couldn’t quite make it count. Delaford then caught us on the counter, and a miss control from Hussain gifted them their 2nd.
But the boys refused to let their heads drop. They kept fighting and were rewarded with a brilliant team goal, 5/6 passes strung together before Vinnie calmly tapped home our 1st. From that point on it was all Sandgate, wave after wave of attacks, but no finish.
Romario came closest with an outrageous effort from the halfway line that looked destined for the net, only for their keeper to sprint back and tip it away at the last moment.
Despite best efforts, sadly a loss.

U13Colts faced Walton &Hersham for the first time.
A great game with a great opposition.
Sadly we found ourselves 3-0 down at half time, a couple of lapses in marking giving W&H scoring opportunities.
The team rallied and showed great resilience to come out after the break and get a goal back straight way. Mason J playing in Inara to get on the score sheet.
W&H restored their lead after a strong attack, but again we came back this time with Chin playing in Inara who drove forward holding off the defence before slotting home.
We enjoyed lots of possession and created chances, but just couldn’t reduce the deficit.
W&H grabbed one more at the end.
A great comeback to draw the second half 2-2, having been 0-3 down at HT.

Great to have several players back from injury and illness.
Shout out to Riley S who made a huge difference back in goal, and to Kian how worked hard today in the left wing.
Today’s PotM went to Mason J, who created our first goals and delivered the half time instructions of getting more stuck in and contesting every ball. He was great today.

U14 played Woking in the league, tough game with lots of injuries and players missing, weather and pitch didn’t help either, we went 2-0 down within 2 minutes at the end of the first half, before that we were well matched.
Into the second half and we pulled one goal back, we carried on, pressing and pushing for the equaliser and it came from some great play.
We didn’t win today but it felt like a win, to be 2-0 down and have the belief and confidence to keep going and get the draw was fantastic to see.

Mom from Scott went to Nathan who had the striker in his pocket the whole game, didn’t put a foot wrong and worked hard. Also Tommy who had a great game today, running that line, crosses and corners were on point
