Sunday was Bonfire Night and Sandgate certainly took part in lighting up the skies by rocketing 85 goals across Middlesex and Surrey and showing some sparkling form too with 11 of our teams firing to victory, one locked in a draw and six gunned down with narrow defeats but a roaring success nevertheless.
We start with our U7's who were too hot for their opponents by putting in a great shift for their firey haired coach Sean Kenny coming out as 9-4 victors
The U8's (pictured) lost a hard fought match 4-3 against their opponents who have gone unbeaten so far this season. 4-1 down at half time, the team showed great fight and determination to bring the game back to 4-3 but were unable to snatch a draw. The effort was also welcomed by the opposition who praised our team for their amazing effort.
Our other U8 side faired better with regards to a result by producing their best performance of the season to grab a great victory. Goals from Luke(3), Abbie(2), Jack & Vinnie gave them an impressive win.
The U9's proved their worth after being rocketed up two divisions, they recorded a great 3-1 win. Unfortunately Coach, Tioram Mitchell was unable to attend the match but he told us the boys didn't play their best football but despite that dug in and they were all very happy with the win. Goals were scored by Rio Kpekewa, Kye Adamson & Kai Stocklosa
Both our U10's were in action this week and we start with our Colts (pictured) who clung on to victory by four goals to three despite being 4-0 up at half time. A spirited fightback from their opponents saw Sandgate struggle in the second half but they work hard to snatch a hard fought victory.
No such trouble for the U10's though as they were in red hot form, scoring thirteen goals to record a great victory. Goals from Cristiano(4) Chay(2) Mo(2) Jazz(2) Shantae, Yasim & Tommy E, proved that 13 is not always unlucky.. Coach Jay was so happy with the performance that he forgot to take a team photo. Maybe next week..?
It was also a mixed day for our U11's as our Colts, despite a good second half performance, found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-2 defeat against Halliford Colts. Coach Kamel was happy despite the defeat and said if we'd taken a few of our chances the result could have been better.
Macca's 11's though showed how to finish recording a 7-2 victory away to Motspur Park. The boys had enjoyed a team bonding evening the night before at Ascot Races (Firework Display) which proved to do the trick as the team put in a tremendous performance from start to finish. A hatrick from Preet a brace for Kunmi and a goal a piece for Patrick & Sharman gave the scoreline an impressive look but a great all round performance capped with a Man of the Match performance from Rio made it a great day "and night" for the 11's.
Our U12's were also firing on all cylinders despite missing four regular defensive players "including their goalkeeper" they still managed to keep a clean sheet and put four in the net too as they ran out 4-0 against Rocks Lane. Coach Barry was extremely pleased with the way his team pulled together in the absence of so many players and showed great quality, determination and desire throughout whole match. Special praise also goes to Alfie who on his first match this season following injury put in a great performance and also got himself on the scoresheet "twice" along with Jake P & Steeley. Contenders for our team of the day maybe..?
Our U13's suffered defeat for the first time in three weeks despite another tremendous performance from the boys. Coach Ritchie could not fault the effort shown by his team against a good Leatherhead side and felt a draw may have been a fairer result. A goal from Nibhan and a Man of the Match performance from Marcus were not quite enough though as the boys narrowly lost 2-1.
It was a similar day to our U12's for Darren's U14 Blades with several players missing from the squad. However the boys available put on a great show and despite conceding three goals in the first half they showed great resilience and determination to draw the second half 0-0 which showed once again some great determination and desire from our Sandgate team. Well done boys.
There's still no stopping our U14 Colts and Arrows who are going from strength to strength with both recording wins again. Our Colts played away at Belmont and proved to strong for their opponents by netting seven goals scored by Mikey Martins(3), Joshua Okwuolu(2), Mohammed Farid and an unforunate own goal making final score 7-1 to the Colts.
The Arrows cemented their place on top of the Harrow League Premier Division with an impressive 4-0 win away to Ruislip Rangers. Goals from Leo Sery (MOM), Jesse Nyarko, Frankie Major, Deron Lorainey and a great all round performance from the whole team capped off another great weekend for Coach Stuart and the boys.
Our U15's also enjoyed a good weekend despite a win and a draw. Our Colts returned to winning ways after a couple of bad weeks for them by firing in six goals away to AFC Ewell with goals from Tinnaye Chiramburgwa(2), Jules Downing, Ryan Roberts, Charlie Burrows & Youseff Birband cappng an impressive 6-2 victory.
Coach Jason's U15's were also delighted with an impressive 2-2 draw against last season's County Cup Finalists Hampton. It could have been even better for the boys had they not lost their keeper to injury early in the first half and conceding a late equaliser late in the game too. Great effort though boys.
Brady & Kevin's U16 Colt's bounced back to winning ways following a dissapointing draw last week to record a 7-1 victory against Mitcham Park. The Colts started the game well and went in 5-1 at half time despite missing several good chances. The second half became a bit scrappy but the boys still managed two more goals to run out worthy winners. Goals scored by Reece Roberts(2), Ben Crane, Samuel Hall, Dawid Kowalski, James Stone & Tyler Bunn.
It was another frustrating day though for our U16 Uxbridge side as they continue to struggle to find their form despite a lot of hard work on the training pitch. Tony & Rob decided maybe a change in formation was needed to help the boys create more chances but a sluggish start saw them trailing 2-0 inside the first 20 mins. However they got a goal back through Hubert Adamek but couldn't convert all their chances and went into the break 4-2 down. A much more spirited second half saw the boys claw back to 4-3 with a great team goal finished by Louis Davies and just when it looked like a well deserved draw was on the cards a dubious decision allowed Kingstonian to capitalise and snatch a break away goal to leave them with a flattering 5-3 win. Some much needed effort from the boys though and an unlucky defeat..
It was a similar story for our U18's who found themselve 4-0 down away to St Heliers but another excellent team performance in the secon half with only ten players, saw them get back into the game but ended up unfortunately on the wrong side of a 5-3 defeat also. Great effort from the boys though. Well done.
