We Will Remember Them

Sunday 12th November was Remembrance Sunday and Sandgate Youth Football Club along with their opponents all showed great respect in remembering the fallen by holding a minutes silence before all kick offs. Well done and thank you to all teams, home and away.

Once our respects had been paid it was down to business and we get underway with our U7's who took part in a "lively" 3-3 draw against Indian Gymkhana. Coach Sean wasn't at the match but he said it was a tough fought draw against passionate opposition..

Our U9's were involved in their first ever cup match this weekend and didn't dissapoint running out 3-0 winners against a very tough and well drilled Bedfont side. Coach Tioram said the boys had to overcome the physical demands of the game before putting their good coaching into practise linking up both in defence and attack scoring some great goals whilst keeping a clean sheet. Goalscorers on the day were Ali Sallem (2) & Rio Kpekawa.

Our U10 Colts continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive away win against Mayford Athletic Rebels. A hat trick from Romario capped off a great "nitty gritty"  performance from the boys who fought to the end to extend their impressive run. Well done boys.

Our U11 Colts also faced Mayford Athletic but this time their Panthers and the boys came roaring back from a goal down at half time and clawed their way to a 5-3 victory. Goals fromHalil Plisi, Raian Hadji, Zak Lauren and two from Man of the Match Nabil Mezali were enough to grab a win from the jaws of defeat.

The U12's were in cup action this week and faced a tough test against Byfleet Village who sit top of the division above, having only lost once all season & on the back of a 9-0 last week, Byfleet were always going to be confident going into this match but Barry's boys proved a match for the table toppers holding them at one a piece before an injury to a key Sandgate player knocked the boys off their stride a bit which allowed Byfleet to take the lead. Sandgate pushed hard for the equalizer but it didn't arrive and a cruel counter attack gave Byfleet a 3-1 victory. Jake P scored the goal for Sandgate but Man of the Match went to Sam Buckland for his impressive performance in goal. Unlucky boys, great effort.

Chris Stanborough's U13 Colts bounced back after no match last week to record a 5-0 win against Foxes to keep them hot on the heels of the League leaders sitting in second place. Goals from Shae (3) Afie & Jorsh gave the scoreline the impressive look but Chris was very pleased with the clean sheet as well. Rumour has it Sandy the Fox also claimed two assists..!

Richie's 13's are also enjoying some good form recently and carried this on with a 6-3 victory against Kingstonian Youth. With the boys leading 4-1 at half time they relaxed a bit allowing Kingstonian back in the game but a couple more second half strikes secured a 6-3 victory. Scorers were Nibhan (2) Callum, Adonis, Marcus, Seth with the MOM going to Tom.

Unfortunately our U14 Blades & Arrows drew each other in the County Cup which meant we were going to lose one of our teams. However, both teams put on a great performance showing great respect for each other & producing some excellent football but it was our Arrows who were victorious and go on to the next round.

The U15 Colts were in League Cup action and were pressed all the way against Motspur Park before surviving a last minute shot off the bar to win 3-2. The boys having come from behind, dug in well and showed some great fighting spirit. Scorers were Sohail (Sohrabi (2) & Poket Rocket, Jack McKenzie.

Jason's 15's also had to fight back in their County Cup fixture against Eclipse FC. Trailing 3-1 at half time, the boys rolled their sleeves up and put in a tremendous second half performance to win the game 8-5.

It was another good day for our U16 Colts although the boys frightened the life out of Brady & Kevin as they looked like throwing away a 6-0 lead at half time against Ewell Saxons. Sandgate dominated the first half and maybe felt the job was done but Ewell had other ideas and kept battling but The Colts held firm and finished up 6-4 winners. Goals from  Reece Roberts (4) Ben Crane & James Stone.

Finally another frustrating day for our U16 Uxbridge team who found themselves on the end of the same result against the same side they faced last week, Kingstonian Youth Eagles. It was an evenly contested game but the wind favoured the opposition who captilised on some slack attacking play catching out Sandgate on three occasions. Sandgate stayed in the match all the way but were always chasing it and despite goals from Majid, Ronnie Heath & Nicholas the boys were once again on the wrong side of a 5-3 defeat.
